What wildlife can I expect to see?
Elephants, buffalo, Rothschild's giraffes, Uganda kob, warthogs, hippos and Nile crocodiles are seen on most journeys, along with lions and exceptional birdlife. Leopards and hyenas are present but far more elusive.
Is this a Big Five safari?
Four of the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo — live in Murchison Falls. Rhinos are seen at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, which is an optional stop on the drive north, completing the Big Five.
When is the best time to visit?
Murchison Falls is a year-round destination. The drier months concentrate wildlife around the river, while the greener months bring lush scenery, newborn animals and outstanding birding.
What should I pack?
Neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for early morning drives, a hat, sunglasses, high-factor sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars and a light rain jacket.
Is this suitable for children?
Yes. Game drives and the Nile cruise suit all ages, and the pace is easy. We adjust drive lengths and lodge choices for families travelling with younger children.
Can this safari be combined with gorilla trekking?
Beautifully. Murchison pairs naturally with Bwindi for gorillas and Kibale for chimpanzees, creating a complete Uganda wildlife journey.
Are game drives private?
Yes. Your journey uses a private 4WD safari vehicle with a professional guide, so timings, stops and photography breaks are entirely yours.
What camera equipment is recommended?
A telephoto lens of 200mm or more for wildlife, a wide lens for landscapes and the falls, spare batteries, ample memory cards and a beanbag or soft support for shooting from the vehicle.
