What is the Buganda Kingdom?
Buganda is one of Africa's oldest and most influential kingdoms, centred on the region around Kampala and Lake Victoria. It has its own language, clans, ceremonies and royal institutions, and its history long predates modern Uganda.
Is Buganda still an active kingdom today?
Yes. The Kingdom remains a living cultural institution led by the Kabaka, with active clans, cultural sites and ceremonies that continue to shape community life across central Uganda.
What cultural etiquette should I know?
Dress modestly at royal and cultural sites, greet people warmly and unhurriedly, ask before photographing individuals, and follow your guide's lead on where to sit, stand or remove shoes. Your guide briefs you before each visit.
What traditional foods will I experience?
Expect matoke, groundnut sauce, luwombo, fresh tilapia, seasonal fruit and Ugandan coffee and tea — usually shared family style. Dietary requirements are easily accommodated with notice.
Can this journey be customised?
Always. Length, pace, the depth of the heritage content and the balance between city and countryside are all shaped around you before anything is confirmed.
Is photography permitted at cultural sites?
In most places yes, though some royal and sacred areas restrict or prohibit photography. Your guide confirms what is permitted at each site, and always seeks permission before photographing people.
Can children join this experience?
Yes. The pace is easy and the music, dance and craft demonstrations are especially engaging for younger travellers. We adjust the day lengths for families.
Can this journey be combined with a wildlife safari?
