Before you travel.
How difficult are the waterfall hikes?
Easy to moderate. Expect two to four hours of walking on hill paths that can be steep and slippery after rain, with plenty of stops for views and photography.
Can beginners join?
Yes. The pace is gentle and the routes can be shortened, so travellers with a reasonable level of everyday fitness are comfortable throughout.
When is the best time to visit?
Sipi is beautiful all year. The drier months make the trails easier underfoot, while the wetter months bring the falls to full force and the greenest scenery.
What should I pack?
Sturdy walking shoes with grip, a warm layer for cool highland evenings, a light rain jacket, sun protection, insect repellent and a small daypack.
Can I combine this with Mount Elgon?
Beautifully. Sipi pairs naturally with the Tutum Cave and Mount Elgon journey, and sits easily alongside a Jinja or Murchison Falls extension.
Is the coffee experience suitable for children?
Very much so. Picking, pulping, roasting and grinding are hands-on and memorable, and younger travellers are welcome to take part throughout.
How many waterfalls will we visit?
Three. The guided trail links all three Sipi waterfalls, with the option to visit only the main fall if you prefer a shorter walk.
